Buddhist Ceremonies

Why do we attend Buddhist ceremonies? Many people think that this helps us earn merits and blessings. Some even say that this is a kind of superstitious practice. These are misunderstandings. Out of admiration and respect, Buddhists worship the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas with the aspiration for learning their wisdom and compassion. Under the guidance of the Master, we repent for our bad deeds during the rituals, which is good for cleansing the impurities in our mind and consciousness. It also trains our mindfulness and calmness, and cultivates our compassion and thankfulness. Rituals are indeed a practical training for the body and the mind and will help purify our body, our speech and our mind. It helps us nourish the Bodhisattvas’ spirit and enter the realm of purity.
