About Contemplation at Ease
Founded in May 1992 in Hong Kong, Contemplation at Ease is a non-profit charitable organization. Its members come from different walks of life and professions.
“Contemplation” refers to practicing observation and reflection in the present moment to attain a state of “ease”. Being “at ease” is a common expression, but what exactly does it mean? People will feel at ease when they do not have troubles and worries and can live a free and independent life. Yet, how can we maintain the real sense of ease? People in general lack the wisdom to handle the problems in life, and do not understand the original causes of their troubled mind. Contemplation at Ease aims to impart the wisdom of life to members. They will be able to attain ease through wisdom learning, mindful practices and appropriate physical training.
There are two senses of ‘being at ease’ – in the body and in the mind. When we are free from illness and pain, our body will feel at ease. When we are free from worries, our mind will be at ease. We are constantly troubled by the questions of life and death, aging and illness. Driven by the pursuit of desires and different kinds of attachments, we are living in a perpetual state of uncertainty. We may feel happy when we obtain the things that we want, but will be at a loss and upset when we lose them.
The world is constantly changing. Our life is evolving in the perpetually changing surroundings, and seldom do we have full control over what is happening to us. People always want things to follow their wishes, and meet their sense of perfection. Our stubborn attachments stop us from accepting things as they are, and adjusting to our surroundings. We will not be at ease when life does not live up to our expectations.
Life is short; engaging in an endless pursuit of insatiable desires is not a way to attain ease. Even we obtain what we want at the moment, this sense of ease won’t last long. The fire of desire will keep burning. What, then, do we live for? How much do we understand the real meaning of being “at ease”? What does the true sense of ease feel like? How can we achieve it?
Contemplation at Ease is dedicated to sharing the wisdom for life and true knowledge about the Universe. Through joining different activities, members will be able to identify effective ways to put this wisdom into practice and to obtain the true sense of being at ease.
